Peptide legal status/Sermorelin

Legal status · Record reviewed July 23, 2026

Is Sermorelin legal in the U.S.?

Short answer

Sermorelin has no single legal status. It depends on the product and how it is supplied.

This review found no current FDA-approved sermorelin product in the United States. Former Geref products were FDA-approved and are no longer sold. FDA said safety or effectiveness was not the reason for their withdrawal.

Sports: the anti-doping rules we checked list it as prohibited (checked July 23, 2026).

Rules for buying, selling, and prescribing also depend on how a product is made and sold, and on state law.

This is not legal advice.

Whether you may buy, sell, or use a product also depends on pharmacy (compounding) rules, a prescription, and state law. Read how U.S. peptide law works.

The three records behind this answer

Is there an FDA-approved Sermorelin product?

Human product discontinued

FDA once approved a product for people, and the record lists it as discontinued. An old approval does not make a product sold today approved. Animal approvals do not apply to people.

What the record says: This review found no current FDA-approved sermorelin product in the United States. Former Geref products were FDA-approved and are no longer sold. FDA said safety or effectiveness was not the reason for their withdrawal.

Is it on FDA's compounding safety list?

Not named on this FDA page

This FDA page does not name it. That does not show that a pharmacy may compound it. Other FDA lists and conditions still apply.

Source: FDA's page of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks. FDA marks it current as of April 22, 2026. We checked it on October 15, 2026.

Do sports rules ban Sermorelin?

Prohibited

The 2026 WADA list names sermorelin as a prohibited growth hormone-releasing hormone analogue.

Checked July 23, 2026. Read the rule we checked. Check the current World Anti-Doping Agency list and your sport's rules before you compete.

Other names in this record: Geref, GRF 1-29, GHRH(1-29).
