Which substances belong in the class
Research papers describe GHRP-6 and the related peptide hexarelin. They are different molecules. The receptor that responds to these peptides can also respond to ghrelin, a natural body signal, and MK-0677, a nonpeptide compound. Shared receptor activity does not make all of these substances GHRP peptides.
How GHRP differs from GHRH
Growth hormone-releasing hormone, or GHRH, is a different body signal. A study in nine healthy men found that blocking GHRH greatly reduced the largest growth-hormone response to GHRP-6. This shows that the pathways can interact. It does not make the two signals identical or support combining products.
What human studies measured
An early study in 17 healthy men found a short growth-hormone rise after GHRP-6. A separate controlled study in 12 healthy men measured a short response to hexarelin. These studies used different molecules and study designs.
Neither study tested whether people built muscle, lost fat, recovered from injury, or stayed healthier over time. The GHRP-6 result applies only to that tested molecule.
Product and safety limits
FDA lists safety concerns for certain compounded GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 products. These include peptide impurities and possible immune reactions. The GHRP-6 entry also describes possible effects on blood sugar or cortisol. FDA says the cause of some reported adverse events has not been established.

Common questions
Is GHRP-6 the same as all GHRP peptides?
No. GHRP-6 is one member of a group of synthetic peptides. A result for GHRP-6 cannot establish the effect of every member.
Do GHRP studies prove muscle growth?
The small human studies cited here measured short growth-hormone responses. They did not establish muscle growth, fat loss, recovery, or longer life.
Are GHRP and GHRH the same?
