Evidence brief
GHRP-6
Written and source-checked by Anthony Treviso, founder of The Peptide Field.
Direct answer
GHRP-6 is a real peptide made of six amino acids. Small studies in people found short-term changes in growth hormone. They did not show lasting muscle gain, fat loss, recovery, anti-aging, or other health benefits. No FDA-approved human GHRP-6 product was identified in the U.S. databases checked. FDA lists safety concerns for compounding, and WADA prohibits GHRP-6 at all times.
A six-amino-acid research peptide. Small human studies show short-term growth-hormone changes, not proven muscle, fat-loss, or other lasting health benefits.

Studies in people measured how the substance changed the body. This did not establish a health benefit on its own. - Sports rules

01 · Evidence profile
Four questions about the evidence
Small studies measured short-term hormone responses. They did not establish muscle gain, fat loss, recovery, or other lasting health outcomes.
Small studies in healthy men show a short-term growth-hormone response. One small early study measured how GHRP-6 moved through the body.
FDA lists possible immune reactions from peptide impurities or aggregation, plus possible cortisol and blood-sugar effects. Human studies are too small and brief to show uncommon or long-term harms.
FDA identity records do not establish finished-product quality or approval. Compounded and online products need separate evidence.
02 · Identity
What it is
GHRP-6 is a short chain of six amino acids, the small building blocks that make peptides. FDA's identity record lists the sequence His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. It is designed to affect growth-hormone release. A growth-hormone response is a body measurement. It is not proof of a lasting health benefit.
Scientific group: Growth hormone-releasing peptide. This group name describes the type of molecule or body signal. It does not prove a benefit, safety, or approval.
03 · Exact product
The molecule is not the finished product.
Formulation: The finished product's ingredients and physical form. Route: How the product enters the body. Indication: The approved or studied use and group of people for a product.
None identified in the United States.

What the research shows
Small human studies show short-term hormone effects. In 17 healthy men, GHRP-6 increased growth hormone for a short time. Another study in 9 healthy men found that blocking a body signal called GHRH greatly reduced the response. An early study in 9 healthy men measured GHRP-6 exposure in the body. These studies measured hormones and exposure, not muscle gain, fat loss, recovery, or long-term health.
These studies do not show that GHRP-6 builds muscle, burns fat, speeds recovery, slows aging, or treats a health condition. The studies were small, short, and mainly in healthy men. One study changed the body's GHRH signal to test how the hormone response works. It was not a treatment study. No FDA-approved human GHRP-6 product was identified in the checked U.S. databases as of August 30, 2026. This is a dated database finding, not a claim about every country or future record.
Exact product
FDA's identity record describes the GHRP-6 molecule, not a finished drug product. FDA lists GHRP-6 in compounding safety reviews and in its current 503A category list. Products sold online or made by a compounder need separate proof of identity, quality, and approval.

“GHRP-6 is a six-amino-acid peptide.”
FDA's identity record lists GHRP-6 as a hexapeptide, which means six amino acids, and gives its sequence. An identity record does not prove approval, quality, or equivalence between products.
- Evidence used
- Regulatory or product record. This answer uses an official regulator record or a specific product label.
- Limits of this answer
- The FDA-identified GHRP-6 molecule only. This identity fact does not cover every product sold under the name. This answer covers only the named molecule and finished product. It also covers the product form and how people used it. The study limits include who took part, what was used for comparison, what changed, and how long the study lasted.
“GHRP-6 can raise growth hormone in short human studies.”
Small studies in healthy men measured short-term increases in growth hormone after GHRP-6. One study found that the response depended in large part on GHRH, another body signal. These are hormone measurements, not proof of treatment benefit.
- Evidence used
- Human pharmacology. This answer uses a study of how the substance enters or changes the body in people. This alone does not show a health benefit.
- Limits of this answer
- Small, short studies in healthy men; hormone response only, not muscle, fat loss, recovery, or other health outcomes. This answer covers only the named molecule and finished product. It also covers the product form and how people used it. The study limits include who took part, what was used for comparison, what changed, and how long the study lasted.
“A growth-hormone response proves that GHRP-6 builds muscle or burns fat.”
A hormone response is not the same as a lasting health outcome. The reviewed human studies did not establish muscle gain or fat loss.
- Evidence used
- No reliable human outcome evidence. No reliable study in people shows the health outcome in this statement.
- Limits of this answer
- Muscle, fat-loss, and other lasting outcomes; the reviewed studies measured hormones or exposure only. This answer covers only the named molecule and finished product. It also covers the product form and how people used it. The study limits include who took part, what was used for comparison, what changed, and how long the study lasted.

“GHRP-6 is FDA-approved in the United States.”
No FDA-approved human GHRP-6 product was identified in the checked U.S. databases as of August 30, 2026. FDA's substance identity record does not mean approval. This is a dated database finding, not a claim about every country or future record.
- Evidence used
- Regulatory or product record. This answer uses an official regulator record or a specific product label.
- Limits of this answer
- U.S. human drug records checked on August 30, 2026. This answer covers only the named molecule and finished product. It also covers the product form and how people used it. The study limits include who took part, what was used for comparison, what changed, and how long the study lasted.
“A compounded GHRP-6 product is FDA-approved.”
FDA says it does not approve compounded drugs. Its current 503A list puts GHRP-6 in Category 3. This means the nomination did not have enough support. FDA also lists safety concerns for 503B compounding. A 2019 warning letter said GHRP-6 did not meet the 503A rules in that case.
