Peptide legal status/Tesamorelin

Legal status · Record reviewed August 1, 2026

Is Tesamorelin legal in the U.S.?

Short answer

Tesamorelin has no single legal status. It depends on the product and how it is supplied.

FDA has approved Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR for set uses. The approval covers only those products, not every product sold under the name Tesamorelin.

Sports: the anti-doping rules we checked list it as prohibited (checked August 1, 2026).

Rules for buying, selling, and prescribing also depend on how a product is made and sold, and on state law.

This is not legal advice.

Whether you may buy, sell, or use a product also depends on pharmacy (compounding) rules, a prescription, and state law. Read how U.S. peptide law works.

The three records behind this answer

Is there an FDA-approved Tesamorelin product?

FDA-approved product

FDA approved one or more named products for set uses. The approval covers those products only, not every product sold under the same name.

What the record says: An FDA-approved product exists for a narrow indication

  • Egrifta SV Read the FDA label (2024 label)
  • Egrifta WR Read the FDA label (March 2025)

Is it on FDA's compounding safety list?

Not named on this FDA page

This FDA page does not name it. That does not show that a pharmacy may compound it. Other FDA lists and conditions still apply.

Source: FDA's page of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks. FDA marks it current as of April 22, 2026. We checked it on October 15, 2026.

Do sports rules ban Tesamorelin?

Prohibited

Tesamorelin is named as a prohibited growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List and is prohibited at all times for covered athletes.

Checked August 1, 2026. Read the rule we checked. Check the current World Anti-Doping Agency list and your sport's rules before you compete.

Other names in this record: Egrifta SV, Egrifta WR, TH9507, GHRF analogue.
