Peptide legal status/Gonadorelin

Legal status · Record reviewed August 30, 2026

Is Gonadorelin legal in the U.S.?

Short answer

Gonadorelin has no single legal status. It depends on the product and how it is supplied.

Former human products were FDA-approved; current human drug records list Factrel and Lutrepulse as discontinued.

Sports: the anti-doping rules we checked list it as prohibited (checked August 30, 2026). Applies to male athletes only.

Rules for buying, selling, and prescribing also depend on how a product is made and sold, and on state law.

This is not legal advice.

Whether you may buy, sell, or use a product also depends on pharmacy (compounding) rules, a prescription, and state law. Read how U.S. peptide law works.

The three records behind this answer

Is there an FDA-approved Gonadorelin product?

Human product discontinued

FDA once approved a product for people, and the record lists it as discontinued. An old approval does not make a product sold today approved. Animal approvals do not apply to people.

What the record says: Former human products were FDA-approved; current human drug records list Factrel and Lutrepulse as discontinued

Is it on FDA's compounding safety list?

Not named on this FDA page

This FDA page does not name it. That does not show that a pharmacy may compound it. Other FDA lists and conditions still apply.

Source: FDA's page of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks. FDA marks it current as of April 22, 2026. We checked it on October 15, 2026.

Do sports rules ban Gonadorelin?

Prohibited

Applies to male athletes only.

For covered male athletes, the 2026 WADA Prohibited List names gonadorelin under testosterone-stimulating peptides. This is not personal clearance. Athletes must check the current rules that apply to them.

Checked August 30, 2026. Read the rule we checked. Check the current World Anti-Doping Agency list and your sport's rules before you compete.

Other names in this record: Gonadorelin decapeptide, Factrel, Lutrepulse.
